Texas Love

I thought I'd be a better blogger once I got out of school but apparently that wasn't the problem! It has been a very busy but fantastic summer so far! I'm still working on four classes online through BYU before my graduation is official. I thought I'd zoom through them and cross that finish line quickly but there have been way too many distractions!

Jas loves his job with PWC and has learned so much about downtown. I try to meet him for lunch weekly and we try a new restaurant out. The food is so good here! This week we are trying Be-wiched Bistro, they are known for their sandwiches, get it? So cheesy, I love it. The tunnel system is so cool- there is a huge underground system below the skyscrapers. Restaurants, doctors, dentists, spas, shopping, etc. so you don't have to face the summer heat. I thought it might be creepy but it felt like I was walking through a very nice mall.

Outside of work and school we have been discovering all there is to do in Houston. We took a weekend trip to San Antonio to visit Six Flags (Fiesta Texas) and the Premium Outlet Mall. We kayaked 6 miles on Buffalo Bayou through downtown Houston.

We made pickles, haha, like Cam said, "We were picklers, Mitchell!" (any Modern Family fans?)

The Museums are fantastic here, The Museum of Natural Science, Fine Arts Museum, Health Museum, are some of our favorites. I have to be careful about posting this because I don't want to offend anyone, but there was a machine at the Health Museum that took your picture and altered it so you could see what you would look like as a different race and gender. It was so much fun and if you know Jason you will know how great these pictures are! When we saw the picture of what I look like as a boy and what he looks like as a girl we decided that we should not have children, haha, just kidding.

Here is Jason as a girl:

Here is Jason as an African American:

The Houston Zoo is incredible. I guess we are still kids at heart because we bought a membership there, it is just fascinating. They have so many baby animals right now. Tupelo, a baby elephant is one of my favs!

Last week we went to the Jones Theater to see "Bugs Bunny at the Symphony". I had forgotten how hilarious Looney Tunes is. They played the classic cartoons on silent while the Houston Symphony played the songs live. The conductor was great, he told us all about the history of Looney Tunes and all the talent that went into the cartoons. Every episode had an original song written for it. Who knew all of that work was put into those cartoons? We loved it.

Not to end on a sad note, but this month my family had to say good-bye to our cat, Frisco. I know not everyone understands how hard it is to lose a pet but he is missed so much. We all have big holes in our hearts without him, he was a part of our family. Not only are pets fun to have around but they really have a sixth sense about things. Any time a family member was sick or sad, he was right by their side. He just knew what was going on. I know he isn't in pain anymore and is at peace though.

Starting this weekend we are partying up with Jason's family. They live in literally every time zone across the country so it will be a blast to have everyone in one place for 10 days! (minus the parents, they are doing so great as the mission president couple in Argentina, we miss them)

  1. I'm so happy you are falling in love with Houston! We loved Houston! But... I would never canoe/kayak in the Buffalo Bayou! I don't like gators! lol

  3. Hey! I went to that Bugs Bunny symphony many moons ago and it was so fun! Those pictures of Jason morphed are crazy and hilarious all at the same time. I'm so sorry about your cat. That can be a tough loss.
